The State Science and Engineering Fair is held every spring at 每日大赛网站, and is affiliated with the Society for Science and the Public鈥檚 International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF). The State Science and Engineering Fair is open to students in grades 9-12 who have finished in the top 4 places in their respective categories at one of Arkansas鈥 regional ISEF-affiliated science fairs.

The State Science Fair competition was held at the Farris Center on March 31 – April 1, 2017. The recognition banquet for State Fair attendees was at the Student Center Ballroom at 6:30 p.m., Friday, March 31. The awards ceremony was held at Ida Waldron Auditorium, Old Main Hall, on Saturday, April 1, at 3:30 p.m.

Her dissertation, “Toward Capabilities-Based Environmental Leadership: A Case Study from Kanembwe, Rwanda,” was a multi-year study that grew out of the Science and Society in Rwanda study-abroad program.

Dr. Horton’s work provides empirical data that contribute to the Capabilities Approach literature and also show measurable improvements to the quality of life of residents of Kanembwe through the introduction of site-built rocket stoves.

The current award ($223,913) 鈥淚nvestigating the Influence of Halogen Ligands on the Ability of Late Gas-Phase Transition Metal Ions to Activate Bonds in Small Substrate Molecules鈥 supports his work from 2016 鈥 2019.

With this support, Taylor continues his investigations of fundamental reaction dynamics of metal ions with selected molecules. His work will inform the understanding of chemistry relevant to a number of areas – including atmospheric reactions of greenhouse gases and ozone depleting substances, industrial catalytic processes, and the development of novel metal-based materials.

This support also enables Taylor to continue to provide cutting-edge research experiences for many 每日大赛网站 STEM majors who have benefited greatly from his careful mentorship during his 26+ year tenure at 每日大赛网站.

The Department of Mathematics has thirteen GTAs for the AY 2015-16, out of whom聽11 are pursuing the M.S. Degree in Applied Mathematics. The others are in the M.A. Mathematics Education.

There are seven new GTAs who have joined the department this fall and the others are in their second year.

Several topics including lesson planning and assessing student progress, teaching resources, integrating technology and software in the classroom, were discussed.

Director of Professional Development Charlotte Strickland gave a one-hour presentation on sexual harassment training during the orientation.

Chair of the Math Department Dr. Ramesh Garimella and Interim Graduate Dean Dr. Joan Simon welcomed the students.

Each GTA in the program receives a 9-month stipend of $10,800 and a tuition scholarship of 9 credit hours per semester for the academic year. Inquiries about the graduate programs in mathematics or financial assistance may be sent to rameshg@uca.edu.
