Dr. Jayme Millsap Stone

Founding Director-Retired

My experience in higher education includes twenty-four years of learning community classroom and administrative experience, focusing on first-year student engagement and success, curricular and interdisciplinary course development, as well as creative pedagogies and innovative practices. I was honored nationally as a 2013 Outstanding First-Year Student Advocate, an award given by the National Resource Center for the First-Year Experience and Students in Transition. My personal experiences as a first-generation college student鈥攆irst at a small rural agricultural and technical institution and then at a large urban university鈥攁re complemented by my extensive academic commitment to teaching in and advocating for learning communities as a means of educational excellence and reform. I served on the leadership board of the National Learning Communities Project, was a long-time resource faculty for teams attending the Summer Institute on Learning Communities at The Evergreen State College and was on the founding editorial board for the Journal of Learning Communities Research.

Hiking, bird-watching, knitting, my critters鈥擠exter (the Basset Hound), Darby (the little yelper) and Mia (a really fat cat)鈥攁nd Doctor Who (David Tennant is my Time Lord) all capture my interest, as does riding two-up on a Ducati Multistrada.
