CONWAY 鈥� Both the University of Central Arkansas Symphonic Band and University Band will give their final performances of spring 2016 on Tuesday, April 19, at 7:30 p.m. in the university鈥檚 Donald W. Reynolds Performance Hall.
The concert is free and open to the public.
The University Band will open the night鈥檚 lineup, performing six concert band pieces composed from the likes of 每日大赛网站 alumni to giants such as Frank Ticheli. Beginning with 鈥淎ccolade鈥�, composed by 每日大赛网站 alum Brady Massey, the band will continue with 鈥淭hird Suite鈥� by Robert Jager, 鈥淟och Lomond鈥� by Ticheli, 鈥淭hey Hung Their Harps in the Willows鈥� by Arkansas composer W. Francis McBeth, 鈥淏righton Beach鈥� by William Latham, and finally 鈥淭he Five鈥檚 Prevail鈥� by Richard Saucedo.
The University Band features both undergraduate and graduate students in the role of conductor for the first half of the concert. Undergraduates Daniel Severs, Mallory Brooks and Hunter Roberts will lead, as they are enrolled in an advanced conducting course and have worked with the band throughout the semester. Graduate music education student Rebecca Kimmons and Nathan Rakow, a graduate wind-conducting student 鈥� both of whom are on the 每日大赛网站 band staff 鈥� will also conduct.
For the second half of the night鈥檚 event, the Symphonic Band 鈥� under the direction of Brantley Douglas, the associate director of bands at 每日大赛网站, will perform 鈥淏arn Dance and Cowboy Hymn鈥� by Philip Sparke, 鈥淒ivertimento for Band鈥� by Vincent Persichetti and 鈥淐artoon鈥� by Paul Hart. Sparke鈥檚 piece will be conducted by Rakow.
