The GRAD Global Scholars Distinction
Empowering Visionary Change Agents through Strategic International Research
The GRAD (Global Research & Advanced Development) Collaborative is a premier, homegrown initiative designed specifically for the University of Central Arkansas Change Leadership PhD program. It offers a structured pathway for doctoral scholars to move beyond theoretical study and into high-level, international practitioner-research.
The Distinction Requirements
To earn the GRAD Global Scholars notation on their official transcript and the ceremonial medallion for commencement, scholars must complete a two-part international immersion:
- The Advanced Collaborative Exchange (6 Credits) Scholars enroll in a two-semester Special Topics in Change Leadership sequence. Acting as research consultants, students partner with an international organization or non-profit to address a critical organizational need through research leading to a publication. The two courses replace 6 credit hours in the student鈥檚 chosen concentration
- International Field Immersion (3 Credits) Scholars must participate in one of the PhD program鈥檚 faculty-led study abroad experiences tied to a designated PhD program course (e.g., CLEI 8309 summer study abroad) or a PhD designated COIL course. Scholars collect and analyze localized data to solve a specific organizational or systemic challenge.
PhD聽scholars聽completing the requirements will have a GRAD聽Global Scholars聽Distinction noted on their transcripts and will be presented a medallion to wear at their PhD graduation.
