Individual Strategies
Individual-level interventions target students, including those in higher-risk groups such as first-year students, membersÌýof Greek organizations, student-athletes, and mandatedÌýstudents. They are designed to change students’ knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors related to alcohol so that they drink less, take fewer risks and experience fewer harmful consequences.
ÿÈÕ´óÈüÍøÕ¾ implements the following categories of individual-level interventions.
- Education and awareness programs, campaigns, and activities
- Virtual alcohol and drug education courses
- Skills training and practice
- CounselingÌýand behavioral therapy
- Referrals for treatment
Environmental Strategies
Environmental-level strategies target the campus community and student population as a whole and are designed to change the environments in which drinking occurs. A major goal is to reduce the availabilityÌýof alcohol, which cuts consumption and harmful consequences.
The following environmental-level approaches are implemented.
- Substance-freeÌýcampus
- ProvidingÌýalcohol-free social activities and events
- Bystander Intervention programs
- Enforcing the age-21 minimum legal drinking age
- Campus police and party monitors at social events
- Scheduling classes on Friday
- Keeping the library and recreational facilities open longer
- Campus-wide media campaigns
