ÿÈÕ´óÈüÍøÕ¾ Chapter of ArMHCA To Host Mental Illness Equality Event

In honor of mental health awareness week, the ÿÈÕ´óÈüÍøÕ¾ chapter of ArMHCA (Arkansas Mental Health Counseling Association) is hosting an event, Tuesday October 7th, 2014 during X-period in Ida Waldron Auditorium. The title is Equality For All: Removing the Stigma of Mental Illness. Speakers are Angie Bowen- LPC, President of Arkansas Mental Health Counseling Association and Annette Woodruff- LCSW, C-ASWCM, Former President of Arkansas Social Workers Association.

ÿÈÕ´óÈüÍøÕ¾ Professor and Students Participate In Model United Nations Event

ÿÈÕ´óÈüÍøÕ¾ Professor Dr. Mark Mullenbach, along with students Kayla Close and Katelyn Wilkins, participated in a Model United Nations event at Little Rock Central High School.  Around 50 students and teachers from LRCHS, Mills University Studies H.S., J.A. Fair H.S., Pulaski Academy, and UALR participated in the event, which included sessions on writing position papers, developing resolutions, participating in committees, committee topics, and parliamentary procedures.  Following a luncheon, the students participated in mock sessions of UN committees.

This is just one of a number of activities in the run up to the Model United Nations conference that ÿÈÕ´óÈüÍøÕ¾ hosts every November.  High school delegations from all across Arkansas and from as far away as Nashville, TN and the panhandle of Florida attend.  The number of participants routinely exceeds 300.  Next year’s conference will be the 50th annual meeting.

ASHA names Audiology Advisor Council Vice Chair

natalie-benafieldClinical Instructor Natalie Benafield, AuD, CCC-A, has been elected by her peers as ASHA’s incoming Audiology Advisory Council Vice Chair.

ASHA is the national professional, scientific, and credentialing association for more than 173,000 members and affiliates who are audiologists, speech-language pathologists, speech, language and hearing scientists, support personnel, and students. ASHA governance includes two bodies that report to the Board of Directors, the Audiology Advisory Council and the Speech-Language Pathology Advisory Council.

The councils are charged with identifying, discussing and ranking issues of concern to members and advising the Board of Directors on issues for consideration as the Association engages in strategic or forward thinking. Each advisory council is comprised of 54 members — one from each state, the District of Columbia, International constituency, U.S. Territories and NSSLHA. Members of the Advisory Councils are elected by ASHA members in their state and profession and each Advisory Council elects a Chair and Vice-Chair to serve a yearly term.

ÿÈÕ´óÈüÍøÕ¾ Professor Received Performing Arts Individual Artist Award

Professor Rebekah Scallet, who teaches in the theatre program in the Department of Mass Communication and Theatre and serves as Producing Artistic Director of the Arkansas Shakespeare Theatre, received a Performing Arts Individual Artist Award in the area of Theatrical Directing from the Arkansas Arts Council.

ÿÈÕ´óÈüÍøÕ¾ Professor Named In List of Visionary Arkansans

The Delta Exhibition was sponsored by the Arkansas Arts Center.

This is Bailin’s fourth award, and he was named to a select list of “Visionary Arkansans” by “The Arkansas Times.”
