He has been asked serve as an expert for the international online conference “International Stuttering Awareness Day,” which took place on聽October 22, 2015.
Dr. Paul Nail, 每日大赛网站 psychology professor was recently interviewed on聽KUAR radio concerning his, Dr. Bihm’s and Dr. Simon’s research on bullying.
Dr. Dorothy Graves, who hosts the Science Cafe radio broadcast for KUAR, is on the faculty at UAMS.

Immediately after the radio broadcast, Dr. Nail and Dr. Graves went to the Afterthought Bistro and Bar in Little Rock’s Hillcrest neighborhood for the live audience version of the Science Cafe.
Here, Dr. Nail was one of three panelists for an open discussion of bullying with members of the public.
Ken Sobel, 每日大赛网站 professor of psychology, has also participated in the Science Cafe at the Afterthought on a couple of occasions.
Dr. Patty Kohler-Evans and Dr. Candice Dowd Barnes’ recent book “Civility, Compassion and Courage in Schools Today: Implementing Strategies for K-12 Classrooms” was recently recognized by the National Civility Center as a key resources in their Civility in Schools Toolkit.
They were also included on the Center’s Speakers Bureau.
Kandi Hughes, Associate General Counsel and Compliance Officer at 每日大赛网站, was recently selected to participate in the Leadership Greater Little Rock program.
The Little Rock Regional Chamber of Commerce formally announced the members of Leadership Greater Little Rock Class XXXI on Wednesday, Sept. 23, at 4:00 p.m., at an event held in the Great Hall of the William J. Clinton Presidential Center and presented by Simmons Bank. Following the announcement, Simmons honored the new class members with a reception.
Class XXXI is presented by JP Morgan/Chase in partnership with Arkansas Children鈥檚 Hospital, CHI St. Vincent, and Wright, Lindsey & Jennings.
Each year, approximately 50 class members are selected from many applicants to participate in the nine-month program. One day a month, October through June, the class meets at a different Central Arkansas venue to explore topics through expert speakers, panelists, tours and group presentations. Designed to develop a network of skilled leaders, the program informs, educates and trains participants on a wide variety of local and public issues.
In its 31st year, Leadership Greater Little Rock has graduated 1,435 community leaders, including a secretary of state, president pro tempore of the Senate, two university presidents, an adjutant general of the National Guard, five chamber chairmen and two federal judges. Class XXXI will be led by volunteer Co-Chairs Kelly Brown (Class XV), OneBanc; and Jay Moody (Class XVII), U.S. District Court.
Leadership Greater Little Rock is an initiative of the Little Rock Regional Chamber of Commerce.
Six students from the Leadership Studies program attended the Human Development and Capabilities Association conference, which was held at Georgetown University in Washington D.C. from September 10 through September 13, 2015.
The conference theme this year was “Capabilities On The Move: Mobility and Aspirations.”
Five of the students presented their current field-based research projects on health and well-being in the Arkansas Delta. Each student presented an individual paper within the study’s context that focused on health disparities, generational poverty, food security, functional literacy and youth development.
Two students presented their respective dissertation work on girls’ education in Niger聽and聽environmental leadership in Rwanda.
All of the students and attending faculty were able聽to see some of their academic and research idols present new ideas as well as debate current theory, as well as attend a multitude of paper sessions from international researchers who look to improve well-being and human agency around the world.聽They particularly enjoyed plenary sessions with Amartya Sen and Martha Nussbaum, founders of the Capability Approach, and James Heckman and Amartya Sen, Nobel Laureates in Economics.
When students and faculty have opportunities to attend conferences, such as HDCA, they acquire a deeper appreciation for their classroom knowledge and field-based research. They begin to realize that becoming a scholar and leading through research and service can be life-fulfilling.
