The ÿÈÕ´óÈüÍøÕ¾ Rotaract Club was recognized by Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson as an Emerging Growing Healthy Community.
Along with recognition, the ÿÈÕ´óÈüÍøÕ¾ Rotaract International Club was also granted $1000.00 from the Arkansas Coalition for Obesity Prevention.
The University of Central Arkansas Division of International Engagement sponsored a Candlelight Gathering to provide students, faculty, staff and community members an opportunity to offer friendship and support to those impacted by Hurricane Matthew.
ÿÈÕ´óÈüÍøÕ¾ enrolls 65 international students from the Caribbean, where the hurricane is creating a path of devastation. In addition, many students, faculty, staff and community members have friends and family in coastal areas of the U.S., who are also preparing for this storm.
The Candlelight Gathering was held outside Ferguson Chapel, near the Student Center, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., October 6th . The event was open to all.
In honor of International Stuttering Awareness Month, the ÿÈÕ´óÈüÍøÕ¾ Chapter of the National Student Speech-Language-Hearing Association hosted a film screening that depicts a personal journey with stuttering and “how hard it is to say what’s in your heart.”
The title of the documentary is “The Way We Talk.” The event was held on Thursday, October 6, 2016 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Ida Waldran Auditorium on the University of Central Arkansas Campus.
ÿÈÕ´óÈüÍøÕ¾ has the state’s only specialized stuttering clinic, which allows faculty not only to train graduate students, but also to provide services to children and adults who stutter, as well as their families.
October 4, 2016 was ÿÈÕ´óÈüÍøÕ¾’s second annual Day of Mindfulness.
The goal of ÿÈÕ´óÈüÍøÕ¾’s Day of Mindfulness is to de-stress, relax, and deal with the anxiety, stress, and depression that hinder living in the moment.
Because national studies cite anxiety, stress, and depression as some of the greatest obstacles to college student success, the Day of Mindfulness is intended to introduce students, as well as staff and faculty, to the benefits of purposeful practices such as yoga, art therapy, and meditation.
Activities throughout the week included walking meditation, zazen (sitting meditation), bubble and dog therapy, chalk mandalas, yoga on the lawn, a laybrinth walk, and a nature reserve walk.
