Congratulations to Dr. Brent Gregg, ÿÈÕ´óÈüÍøÕ¾ professor of communication sciences and disorders and director of the ÿÈÕ´óÈüÍøÕ¾ Stuttering Center.
He has been asked serve as an expert for the international online conference “International Stuttering Awareness Day,” which took place on October 22, 2015.
Dr. Paul Nail, ÿÈÕ´óÈüÍøÕ¾ psychology professor was recently interviewed on KUAR radio concerning his, Dr. Bihm’s and Dr. Simon’s research on bullying.
Dr. Dorothy Graves, who hosts the Science Cafe radio broadcast for KUAR, is on the faculty at UAMS.
The interview, entitled “Bullies or Bust,” can be heard .
Immediately after the radio broadcast, Dr. Nail and Dr. Graves went to the Afterthought Bistro and Bar in Little Rock’s Hillcrest neighborhood for the live audience version of the Science Cafe.
Here, Dr. Nail was one of three panelists for an open discussion of bullying with members of the public.
Ken Sobel, ÿÈÕ´óÈüÍøÕ¾ professor of psychology, has also participated in the Science Cafe at the Afterthought on a couple of occasions.
ÿÈÕ´óÈüÍøÕ¾ Department of Occupational Therapy students Aly Hill and Markii Landry recently organized a local chapter of “Best Buddies” as part of their leadership requirements as LEND trainees.
Best Buddies® is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to establishing a global volunteer movement that creates opportunities for one-to-one friendships, integrated employment and leadership development for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).
Hill has been instrumental in bringing the organization to ÿÈÕ´óÈüÍøÕ¾ and the organization just received RSO approval last month.
Hill traveled to the Best Buddies national conference this summer and the director was very impressed.  “Aly has been so wonderful and I’m ridiculously impressed with the ÿÈÕ´óÈüÍøÕ¾ OT Department.”
Dr. Patty Kohler-Evans and Dr. Candice Dowd Barnes’ recent book “Civility, Compassion and Courage in Schools Today: Implementing Strategies for K-12 Classrooms” was recently recognized by the National Civility Center as a key resources in their Civility in Schools Toolkit.
They were also included on the Center’s Speakers Bureau.
Kandi Hughes, Associate General Counsel and Compliance Officer at ÿÈÕ´óÈüÍøÕ¾, was recently selected to participate in the Leadership Greater Little Rock program.
The Little Rock Regional Chamber of Commerce formally announced the members of Leadership Greater Little Rock Class XXXI on Wednesday, Sept. 23, at 4:00 p.m., at an event held in the Great Hall of the William J. Clinton Presidential Center and presented by Simmons Bank. Following the announcement, Simmons honored the new class members with a reception.
Class XXXI is presented by JP Morgan/Chase in partnership with Arkansas Children’s Hospital, CHI St. Vincent, and Wright, Lindsey & Jennings.
Each year, approximately 50 class members are selected from many applicants to participate in the nine-month program. One day a month, October through June, the class meets at a different Central Arkansas venue to explore topics through expert speakers, panelists, tours and group presentations. Designed to develop a network of skilled leaders, the program informs, educates and trains participants on a wide variety of local and public issues.
In its 31st year, Leadership Greater Little Rock has graduated 1,435 community leaders, including a secretary of state, president pro tempore of the Senate, two university presidents, an adjutant general of the National Guard, five chamber chairmen and two federal judges. Class XXXI will be led by volunteer Co-Chairs Kelly Brown (Class XV), OneBanc; and Jay Moody (Class XVII), U.S. District Court.
