Concert choir places in international competition

The University of Central Arkansas Concert Choir placed second overall in the 8th International Choir Competition at Riva del Garda, Italy. A total of 63 choirs participated in the competition.

Forty-six ÿÈÕ´óÈüÍøÕ¾ students accompanied by John Erwin, director of choral activities, performed in the competition yesterday. ÿÈÕ´óÈüÍøÕ¾ was the only representative from the U.S.

The group received gold medals in two categories of the competition (category A1, mixed choir with compulsory piece; and category S, sacred music) and was 0.4 of a point shy of being the overall winner in the A1 category, which was earned by a semi-professional Russian choir.

The ÿÈÕ´óÈüÍøÕ¾ choir was so close to the Russian choir in the A1 category, that the university’s choir was invited to perform with category winners in the final concert.

The ÿÈÕ´óÈüÍøÕ¾ concert choir will perform at the ÿÈÕ´óÈüÍøÕ¾ Snow Fine Arts Center at 7:30 p.m., Monday, April 19. The performance is free and open to the public.
