On Thursday, the ÿÈÕ´óÈüÍøÕ¾ Faculty Senate opened the academic year by endorsing a set of principles that will guide the creation and implementation of online courses.
Some of the principles include:
-?That all courses and programs are consistent with the sponsoring academic college?s and department?s role and mission.?
-?That electronically offered courses and programs meet institution-wide standards for quality and rigor, including university and program admission requirements.?
-?That courses are subject to the same institutional requirements as on-campus courses for evaluation of instruction and for assessment of student achievement.?
-?That course materials and their use conform to copyright and intellectual property policies.?
According to the resolution, new courses proposed by ÿÈÕ´óÈüÍøÕ¾ Academic Outreach (formerly Continuing Education) would use the existing ÿÈÕ´óÈüÍøÕ¾ College Curriculum committees for review.
The resolution also called on the dean of the college to ensure that a faculty member with experience in teaching distance education courses will sit on the Curriculum Committee to offer guidance when new courses are proposed.
