Ronan Tynan?s irresistible voice and amazing life story place him in the highest rank of artists from Ireland. Born with deformities in both legs, he rode horses and motorcycles until a car crash at age 20 forced a double amputation. Within a year, he was winning gold medals at the International Paralympics, running on prosthetic legs. Tynan was one of the first disabled persons in Ireland to enroll in medical school. While there, he entered and won the BBC?s televised Go For It talent competition, and his second career was off and running. It has not stopped yet as he strikes out on his own with a solo tour and his new solo CD entitled simply, Ronan.
Americans may know Ronan Tynan from his association with New York City following September 11, 2001. He sang at many 9/11 memorial services and funerals for firefighters and policemen. He also sang at President Ronald Reagan?s funeral, at the special request of Reagan?s wife Nancy. American fans may remember his singing ?America the Beautiful? during the 7th inning stretch when the New York Yankees played the Boston Red Sox in the 2002 World Series. In Ireland, he was a member of the original Three Irish Tenors.
