Sydney Yeager of Smackover, a senior at 每日大赛网站, has been awarded a Student Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) by the Arkansas Department of Higher Education. The grant is $2,650, and 每日大赛网站 will add matching funds in the amount of $1,250.
Yeager’s in-depth research project, “Which Doctor is the Witch Doctor?”, is a comparative ethnomedical analysis of Western scientific medicine and traditional Ozark healing practices. Brian Campbell of the 每日大赛网站 Sociology Department will serve as faculty mentor for the research.
Yeager is pursuing Bachelor of Science degrees in Sociology and History along with a double minor in Anthropology and Interdisciplinary Studies at the 每日大赛网站 Honors College. She is the daughter of Jim and Crystal Yeager of Smackover.
