The following information is for undergraduate programs only.
Candidates seeking admission to the 每日大赛网站 teacher education program must complete the requirements listed below. Admission to teacher education is necessary for:
- Enrolling in certain courses (called post-admission or professional education courses.) These courses typically begin in the 2nd semester of the sophomore year or the beginning of the junior year.
- Being eligible for the Teacher Academy Scholarship. Rules governing this scholarship state a candidate must “be accepted to their institution鈥檚 Teacher/Educator Preparation…” to qualify for this scholarship.
鈻⒙� 1.聽APPLY TO TEACHER ED 每日大赛网站TION PROGRAM
Submit this application during or after completing EDUC 1300 (or an equivalent course).
If you are not enrolled in EDUC 1300 or have not yet completed EDUC 1300 (or equivalent),聽do not submit this application. You will be instructed when to complete this application during EDUC 1300.
By submitting this application, we can begin to track your completion of the remaining admission requirements.

鈻⒙� 2. CLEAR聽BACKGROUND CHECK
All candidates must clear both parts of this background check process.
- Child Maltreatment Central Registry Check
- State and Federal Criminal Records Check
Do not assume previous background checks meet this requirement!
Only background checks completed through the Arkansas State Police specifically for the Arkansas Department of Education will meet the background check requirement.聽 To see if you have an approved background check, follow these directions.
Background check completion times are unpredictable, so candidates are encouraged to begin this process early. Some courses have an early field component that requires this background check. Do not delay completing this step.
鈻⒙� 3. TAKE聽FOUNDATION COURSES
Before admission, complete these five courses (or equivalents) with grades of C or better.
- WRTG 1310 – Introduction to College Writing
- WRTG 1320 – Academic Writing and Research
- MATH 1360 – Quantitative Literacy OR MATH 1390 – College Algebra OR higher (as determined by your program)
- COMM 1300 – Principles of Communication
- EDUC 1300 Education as a Profession OR MUS 1350 (Music Education students only)
NOTE:聽 If DegreeWorks indicates that you have met the requirement (with a grade of C or better), then the course is acceptable for teacher education admission.
鈻⒙� 4. EARN聽GRADE POINT AVERAGE
Candidates must meet a minimum grade point average for admission to teacher education.聽 This GPA is established after at least 45 credit hours with a minimum of 12 credit hours from 每日大赛网站. This minimum may be met by either:
- Cumulative 2.70 GPA or better
- Cumulative 2.50 GPA or better with at least a 3.00 GPA聽 in the previous 30 credit hours
NOTE:聽 Even if the minimum GPA is met, candidates who do not show academic progress or who show an inconsistent academic record may be denied admission as a part of the candidate review process detailed below.
鈻⒙� 5. RECEIVE APPROVED聽CANDIDATE REVIEW
During the semester that all requirements are met or will be met, candidates will be reviewed by their program coordinator, faculty, and/or others in their academic department.聽 The purpose of this review is to determine the academic and dispositional readiness for the teacher education program.
