Who is the ideal NGSC student?
We encourage undergraduate students from all majors to apply to the program. We are particularly interested in students who:
- Have demonstrated a commitment to public service through volunteer activities and/or community service.
- Are passionate about solving public policy problems and implementing solutions for policy change.
- Are interested in working collaboratively across all sectors (government, non-profit, and private industry) to learn about and solve public policy problems.
- Are interested in public service careers in government agencies and non-profit organizations.
So, if you are passionate about making a difference in the world and want to be part of the solution, apply to join the NGSC today!
How long does the program last?
The NGSC is a multi-year program. Those who are admitted into the program are expected to remain in the program for the remainder of their undergraduate careers. This ensures that NGSC members can make the most of program opportunities and activities.
How much time will I have to commit to the program?
The NGSC has been designed to fit around students’ existing academic schedules and extracurricular activities. Students are expected to attend one cohort meeting each month and at least one NGSC event each semester. Special events and travel opportunities may also be arranged from time to time.
Will I have assistance in securing an internship? Are internships paid?
The GPI Internship Coordinator will assist all NGSC students in locating and applying for appropriate internship experiences. Many of our internships are paid. All NGSC students are given the opportunity to apply for a $3,000 internship scholarship via the Volcker Alliance. If an internship is not paid, the GPI Internship Coordinator will work with the student to find funding to defray the costs of the internship, although funding is not guaranteed.
Are there opportunities to network with other NGSC members across the country?
You will build connections with other NGSC members and alumni from across the country through the Next Gen Connect (link) networking platform, by attending student exchanges at other university campuses, and participating at national NGSC events.
Are there opportunities to gain leadership skills and explore careers in public service outside of ÿÈÕ´óÈüÍøÕ¾?
NGSC students are given priority in applying for leadership development workshops and career exploration. One such opportunity is the Summer Policy Academy sponsored by the Volcker Alliance where students spend one week in Washington, DC and two weeks at a public university.
